Shocks and struts are an integral part of your vehicles steering and suspension system. Their main function is to keep your vehicle stable on the road and give you a smooth and comfortable ride.

Shocks and struts are filled with a hydraulic fluid and over time seals get damaged and they begin to leak. Most people do not notice the gradual deterioration in ride quality over time and many shocks and struts are not replaced as often as they should be. The roads in New England can be particularly rough on shocks and struts especially in the winter months during pothole season.

There are a few symptoms that can tell you if it is time to have the shocks and/or struts replaced:

  1. A ride that feels more “bouncy” than usual
  2. Loud banging noises when going over bumps
  3. Loss of stability of the vehicle when going over bumps or at highway speeds

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, have a qualified technician inspect your suspension system.
